Product Description

1. Product Overview

Nomay PTFE Coated Aramid Fabric Tape combines woven aramid reinforcement, a non-stick PTFE surface and single-sided silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.

Also known as PTFE Aramid Cloth Tape or Aramid Fabric Adhesive Tape, it is intended for flexing components, selected roller covers, release liners and application-specific conveyor-edge protection.

Its main selection factors are strength-to-weight, repeated-bending behavior, surface release and attachment performance. It is distinct from PTFE fiberglass tape and unsupported PTFE film.

2. Product Construction

Backing: PTFE-coated woven aramid.
Adhesive: Silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided in the standard version.
Colors: Tan, yellow or black, subject to grade.
Liner: Specified for the selected roll or converting format.
Formats: Rolls, strips, sheets and liner-supported die-cut parts.

Confirm aramid type, weave and coating. Para-aramid and other aramid grades must not be treated as interchangeable.

Adhesive-free and edge-adhesive versions are separate constructions. Total tape thickness excludes the removable liner.

3. Backing & Adhesive System

Aramid provides lightweight textile reinforcement. PTFE supplies the low-friction release surface. Silicone adhesive supports attachment to suitable prepared substrates.

Repeated-flex performance depends on yarn, weave, coating and radius; the material name alone does not establish fatigue life.

Aramid avoids fiberglass reinforcement but is not fiber-free. Cut or worn edges can release fibers.

Pressure-sensitive adhesive does not automatically form a structural bond to a PTFE conveyor belt. Surface preparation and an appropriate attachment design remain necessary.

4. Available Specifications

Model: NM-PTFE-AR.
Backing: PTFE-coated woven aramid.
Adhesive: Silicone.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Coated backing thickness: Confirm by grade.
Adhesive thickness: Confirm by grade.
Total thickness: Selected backing plus adhesive, excluding liner.
Width and roll length: Specified to order.
Colors: Tan, yellow or black, subject to construction.
Formats: Finished rolls, strips, sheets and liner-supported die-cut parts.
Master-roll availability, edge quality and tolerances: Confirm.
Adhesive-free or edge-adhesive supply: Separate specification.

The former universal backing and total-thickness ranges are not verified for every Nomay grade. Ordinary PTFE fiberglass parameters must not be transferred to this aramid construction.

5. Key Features & Buyer Benefits

• Aramid reinforcement supports strength-to-weight requirements.
• Flexible fabric supports selection for repeated bending.
• PTFE helps reduce friction and buildup.
• Replaceable liners protect contact surfaces.
• Custom strips fit component and conveyor-edge geometry.
• Aramid provides an alternative where glass reinforcement is undesirable.
• Converted patches support consistent maintenance.

Wear life and retained strength must be established for the actual application.

6. Application Procedure

Step 1 — Identify component, substrate, contact material, flexing geometry and environment.

Step 2 — Select aramid grade, weave, coating, adhesive, thickness, dimensions and liner.

Step 3 — Define temperature, peak duration, radius, tension, speed, cycles, chemicals and wet or steam exposure.

Step 4 — Prepare parts with appropriate edge quality and an approved attachment or reinforcement design.

Step 5 — Apply adhesive-backed parts to clean, dry surfaces without sharp folds or excessive tension. Use the separately approved method for non-adhesive reinforcement.

Step 6 — Validate adhesion, coating integrity, fraying, retained strength and release under representative operating and aging cycles.

7. Application Industries

• Conveyor and process-equipment manufacturing.
• Packaging machinery.
• Textile and nonwoven processing.
• Printing, coating and laminating.
• Industrial automation.
• Composite tooling where compatible.
• Machinery maintenance.
• Reinforcement and precision converting.

Wet-processing, steam and specialized transportation uses require construction-specific assessment.

8. Application Scenarios / Problems Solved

Repeatedly Flexing Parts
Use where a reinforced release surface must follow repeated motion. Confirm bend radius, reverse bending, tension and cycle count. No universal fatigue-life advantage is assumed.

Small Rollers
Select a construction that follows the roller geometry without cracking or lifting. Confirm diameter, speed and seam design. Low thickness alone does not establish minimum bending radius.

Conveyor Edges
Use for separately designed protective covering or reinforcement. Confirm belt material and attachment. Ordinary PSA is not automatically a structural belt repair or splice.

Wet or Steam Equipment
Evaluate where moisture exposure accompanies mechanical demands. Confirm pressure, temperature, duration, chemicals and retained properties. PTFE surface resistance does not establish whole-tape steam durability.

Release and Wear Liners
Use on compatible guides or fixtures to reduce buildup. Confirm contact pressure, finish and replacement criteria. Worn coating can expose aramid fibers.

9. Performance & Operating Conditions

Temperature
Confirm the complete aramid, coating and adhesive construction against continuous temperature, peaks, duration and load. Universal continuous 200°C and short-term 260°C ratings have not been established for this series.

Mechanical Performance
Evaluate coating cracking, edge fraying, retained tensile behavior and adhesion through the required flex cycle.

Moisture and Chemicals
Assess wet/dry cycling, steam pressure and cleaning chemistry. Exposed edges and damaged coating can expose reinforcement.

Adhesion and Removal
Specify substrate, specimen width, method and dwell time. Check attachment after heat and moisture. Residue-free removal is not guaranteed.

Special Versions
Black does not establish antistatic performance or a defined UV rating. Request a tested functional version where needed.

10. Comparison & Selection Guide

Choose aramid when flex behavior and strength-to-weight are important selection factors.

Compare PTFE fiberglass under the same temperature and mechanical conditions rather than assuming one family is always superior.

Choose PTFE film where avoiding fabric texture is important.

Choose a separately designed adhesive-free or edge-adhesive version when belt fabrication or mounting requires a different attachment method.

For steam sealing or structural belt repair, use an engineered system validated for that purpose.

11. Important Selection Notes + Technical Notes / FAQ

A. Important Selection Notes

• Confirm the actual aramid grade.
• Fiberglass-free does not mean fiber-free.
• Do not transfer ordinary fiberglass-tape parameters.
• Color does not prove antistatic performance.
• Steam suitability requires retained-property testing.
• Confirm dimensions, edge tolerances and availability.
• Generic aramid must not be represented as a branded fiber without evidence.

B. Technical Notes / FAQ

Does it contain fiberglass?
The specified reinforcement is aramid.

Can it repair every conveyor belt?
No. The belt, load and attachment method must be evaluated.

Can it run on small rollers?
Confirm the radius, tension and cycle requirements.

Is continuous steam exposure standard?
No. Validate the complete construction.

Can adhesive-free material be supplied?
It can be requested as a separate construction with its own installation method.

12. Inquiry Requirements / Request a Quote
