Product Description

  1. Product Overview

Nomay Acrylic Adhesive Polyimide Tape combines a polyimide film backing with a single-sided acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive. Also called acrylic PI tape or polyimide electrical insulation tape, it is selected for coil wrapping, lead fixation and custom die-cut insulation.

This product page focuses on insulation attachment and holding performance in motor, transformer, battery and electronic assemblies. Selected adhesive grades may also suit temporary process masking when temperature and removal requirements are confirmed.

  1. Product Construction

Backing: Polyimide film.
Adhesive: Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Adhesive side: Single-sided.
Color options: Amber or black, subject to model confirmation.
Supply formats: Self-wound rolls, liner-backed rolls, sheets, strips and die-cut parts.
Optional liner: PET release liner or another agreed release material.

Finished tape thickness includes the polyimide backing and adhesive layer, excluding the removable liner. Backing thickness, adhesive thickness and finished thickness must be confirmed together.

Acrylic describes the adhesive chemistry. It does not automatically establish a silicone-controlled finished roll, a particular thermal class or residue-free removal.

  1. Reference Specifications and Customization

For preliminary selection, comparable single-sided acrylic PI electrical tapes include constructions around 0.08 mm finished thickness and approximately 33 m roll length. These are public-product reference dimensions, not confirmed specifications for every Nomay model.

Provide the required backing thickness, finished thickness, slit width and roll length. Nomay will confirm the available construction, tolerances and converting format before quotation.

Peel adhesion must be specified with the substrate, specimen width, peel angle, test speed, dwell time and conditioning. Holding power requires a separate assessment of load, bonded area, temperature and test duration.

For die-cut parts, provide a drawing showing dimensions, tolerances, liner requirements and delivery format.

  1. Key Features and Buyer Benefits

Thin Electrical Insulation
The polyimide backing provides electrical separation in compact assemblies where thickness and flexibility affect installation.

Insulation Attachment and Lead Fixation
Selected acrylic grades support attachment of insulation materials and fixation of leads or coil terminations to compatible surfaces.

Conformable Wrapping
The film construction supports wrapping and positioning around suitable component shapes. Backing thickness and winding tension influence conformity and edge lifting.

Chemical-Resistance Options
Selected solvent-resistant PI tape constructions may be evaluated for exposure to cleaning agents, oils or refrigerants. Compatibility depends on the specific adhesive and chemical conditions.

Precision Converting
Liner-backed material supports repeatable die-cut geometry and placement of insulation pads, strips and frames.

Black and Functional Versions
Black light-blocking, low-static, low-VOC and flame-retardant versions may be requested, subject to specification and model confirmation. Black color alone does not establish optical density or ESD performance.

  1. Temperature and Service Conditions

Define continuous service temperature separately from peak process temperature, exposure time and heating cycles.

Comparable acrylic PI electrical tapes include grades rated around -40 to 155°C. This is a selection reference, not an assigned operating range or insulation-system rating for NM-PI-ACR.

Higher-temperature applications require a suitable adhesive formulation and supporting model data. For a short process approaching 260°C, request a dedicated masking-grade evaluation rather than applying an insulation-grade specification.

The temperature capability of bare polyimide film must not be used as the finished adhesive tape rating. Long-term service also requires evaluation of adhesion, creep, electrical performance and aging.

  1. Application Industries and Scenarios

Motors and Coil Assemblies
For selected coil wrapping, lead anchoring and insulation attachment. Confirm winding tension, bend radius, operating temperature and electrical requirements.

Transformers and Electrical Components
For selected outer wrapping, coil termination and insulation placement. Layer insulation must be assessed within the actual electrical design, including voltage, thickness and insulation-system requirements.

Battery and Energy-Storage Assemblies
For insulation strips, protective covers and selected fixation tasks. Confirm electrical performance, edge puncture risk, temperature and any electrolyte or chemical exposure.

Automotive Electronics
For selected sensor and electronic-component insulation. Evaluate thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, fluids and expected service life.

Compressor and Refrigeration Equipment
Selected grades may be evaluated for insulation exposed to specified oils or refrigerants. Test the actual fluid, temperature and exposure duration.

Custom Die-Cut Insulation
For repeatable pads, frames and strips used in manual or automated assembly. Confirm liner release, positioning accuracy and packaging.

  1. Application Procedure

Clean and dry the bonding surface using a method compatible with the component. Remove dust, oil and release agents.

Apply the tape with uniform pressure and avoid excessive stretching. During wrapping, control overlap and winding tension to limit wrinkles and lifted edges.

Allow the agreed dwell time before loading or processing. Evaluate adhesion on rough surfaces, low-surface-energy plastics and sharply curved parts.

Run samples through the complete production and service simulation. Inspect edge lifting, adhesive movement, dimensional change and electrical performance.

For temporary applications, validate removal after the actual heating and dwell conditions. Acrylic chemistry alone does not determine whether removal will be clean.

  1. Adhesion, Holding and Chemical Resistance

Peel adhesion measures resistance to peeling under defined conditions. It does not by itself establish long-term holding or load-bearing capability.

For insulation attachment, assess shear holding, creep, thermal aging and adhesion after humidity or chemical exposure. Include the actual substrate and bonded area.

Resistance to one solvent does not establish resistance to all solvents. Specify the chemical identity, concentration, contact method, temperature and duration.

For permanent electrical insulation tape applications, evaluate performance over the intended service conditions. Mechanical fastening or additional support may still be required by the assembly design.

  1. Electrical and Optional Performance

Electrical performance depends on the complete construction, thickness, humidity, aging and test method. A dielectric breakdown result is not automatically the permissible working voltage of the finished assembly.

When flame retardancy or UL recognition is required, identify the applicable requirement and request a suitable version. Any certification claim must match the actual model and supporting documentation.

Low-static performance requires separate charge-generation and resistance evaluation. Low-VOC and low-outgassing requirements also need defined methods and acceptance limits.

For black light-blocking versions, specify wavelength range, optical density or transmission limits and surface-reflection requirements.

  1. Comparison and Selection Guide

Acrylic PI Tape and Silicone Adhesive PI Tape
Select using the required adhesion, chemical exposure, service temperature and removal behavior. Both adhesive families contain application-specific grades; chemistry alone does not establish permanent bonding or clean removal.

Acrylic PI Tape and Non-Silicone PI Tape
This product emphasizes acrylic adhesion and electrical-insulation selection. A dedicated non-silicone specification additionally defines the scope of silicone control across adhesive, release materials, converting and packaging.

Self-Wound Rolls and Liner-Backed Parts
Self-wound rolls suit wrapping and variable-length application. Liner-backed parts support controlled die cutting, placement and release.

Amber and Black Versions
Amber suits general insulation and visual identification. Black versions can address appearance or specified light-control requirements after construction confirmation.

  1. Storage and Handling

Keep material in its original packaging in a clean, dry environment, protected from direct sunlight and contamination. Follow the storage conditions and shelf life confirmed for the selected model.

Protect exposed adhesive and die-cut edges during handling. Confirm liner release and packaging requirements for automated assembly.

For silicone-sensitive applications, request a defined contamination-control specification. Silicone polymers and elemental silicon are different; any analytical limit must identify the substance and test method.
